From 2004—2016 I worked at the intersection of computer science and visual design. During this time, I investigated, designed, and implemented interactive visualisation methods to help people analyse, understand, and communicate data.
My work included the following. As a Leverhulme Fellow at the School of Computing, University of Leeds, I developed visualisation methods for cell biology data sets. For this, I worked with the Errington Lab at Cardiff University. I also developed visual parameter optimisation methods with the Carpenter Lab at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT, and techniques to visually support systems analysis with engineers at Eindhoven University of Technology.
In addition, I was a programme committee member of international conferences including EuroVis (the EG/VGTC Conference on Visualisation) and BioVis (the Symposium on Biological Data Visualization). I also published a number of research articles on data visualisation (a selection is listed below). I hold a PhD from Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands.

A technique for analysing the developmental histories of cells. Developed in collaboration with Professor Rachel Errington and Dr Imtiaz Khan, School of Medicine, Cardiff University.
Visual methods for optimising biomedical image processing algorithms. Developed in collaboration with Drs Anne Carpenter and Mark Bray, Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT, and Dr Roy Ruddle, University of Leeds.
Visual systems analysis
Visual analysis of state transition graphs, which represent system behaviour. This was part of my PhD research involving engineers and systems analysts at Eindhoven University of Technology.
